As Alphascript continues to grow and evolve, we are always looking for opportunities to better serve our patients and provide exceptional care. With that in mind, we have opened a second office in Houston, TX that will house our growing team of patient care coordinators. The Alphascript Houston office is shared with our parent company, April Health.
The new Houston pharmacy team is led by pharmacy supervisor Chinye Nalls-Ahaiwe, PharmD. We caught up with her to discuss the new location and the team she is building.
Why did you become a pharmacist?
I became a pharmacist to help patients feel better and get well as quickly as possible. Patients do best when pharmacists are part of their healthcare teams because we are the medication specialists. We help patients improve medication adherence and provide optimal patient-centered care. Pharmacists are often tasked with considering the relationship between medical conditions, lifestyle and other variables to help choose the best medications. Pharmacists also work with colleagues to conduct research, establish new pharmaceutical practices within specific business entities and collaborate with doctors to ensure that patients are receiving the correct medications. Witnessing patients live healthier and happier lives drives my passion.
What is your day-to-day job like?
My day-to-day is constantly evolving. For the past year I’ve been working with a staff of exceptional clinical pharmacists providing the best patient care possible. My focus now is immersing myself in Alphascript operations and culture so that I can successfully supervise the Houston call center and build an exceptional team.
What about building this team of patient care coordinators are you most excited about?
The chance to see something grow from the ground up. Most of the current Alphascript team has been with the company since the original building called “1160,” so they’ve had a front-row seat for Alphascript’s exponential growth. Being able to have a hands-on approach with a company as it grows is a once in a lifetime experience and is something that I will forever cherish.
What will patient care coordinators in Houston be doing?
Our patient care coordinators are on the front line of patient care. They are the heartbeat of the call center. We plan to have a staff of friendly, goal-oriented individuals that can provide exceptional customer service. Most of their time will be spent on the phone with patients, acting as a liaison between the patient and their greater healthcare team of pharmacists, providers, payers and more.
What’s the new office like?
The new office is a like mini version of the Alphascript headquarters in San Carlos, CA. We are fortunate to have the same time top-of-the-line equipment, technology and space. The property is safe, innovative and secure. It is equipped with all the necessary tools to provide the best care for our patients. Not to mention an office gym so that staff can live healthy lives as well!
Why do you like working at Alphascript?
What I like the most about working at Alphascript is being among a group of individuals who are willing to go above and beyond for our patients. The Alphascript staff are the most selfless individuals who truly value patient care above all else.
