About Neurology
Neurological disorders affect the body’s nervous system. These can be diseases of the brain, nerves, spinal cord and muscles. These conditions, including epilepsy and multiple sclerosis, often require patients to be on medication for the rest of their lives. In many cases, the goal of treatment is to reduce disease activity, manage symptoms and give patients the highest quality of life possible. Alphascript works with patients and their caregivers to achieve their goals.

Frequently Asked Questions about Neurological Conditions
What is multiple sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. MS causes the body to attack its own tissues, causing communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body. In some cases, nerves can weaken or become permanently damaged.
Is there a cure for MS?
Currently there is no cure for MS, but there are medications available that can reduce relapses, delay disease progression and limit new disease activity.
What are common symptoms of MS?
Symptoms of MS vary in each individual case due to the amount of nerve damage present and which nerves are affected. Symptoms can include numbness or weakness of the limbs, partial or complete loss of vision, tingling or pain in parts of the body, tremors, muscle stiffness and cramps, fatigue and dizziness, among others.
What is epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a chronic seizure disorder. A seizure is an uncontrolled electric disturbance in the brain which can cause changes in behavior, movements and levels of consciousness.
How is epilepsy treated?
Most patients can become seizure-free by taking anti-seizure (anti-epileptic) medication. A patient’s doctor will work with the patient to find the appropriate treatment, which depends on factors such as frequency of seizures and age.
Is there a cure for epilepsy?
There is no cure for epilepsy, but the condition can be managed with medication.
